Moussem
Moussem is a Moroccan rug company started in 2020 with the purpose of empowering women artisans in keeping a dying art alive. With artisans from all over Morocco, Moussem helps tribes maintain their identity while giving those around the world a wonderful piece for their home. My job as a graphic designer ranged from creating and preparing online social assets, to UX work in streamlining the users website experience. My goal was to bring the unique qualities of each tribe to the forefront of the brands image and allow the customer to find "their tribe' in that they relate to the most.
Amazigh Communities
The Amazigh communities of women artisans are left behind by mass-market distributers. Sarah who founded Moussem (seen left in picture) in 2020, set upon the mission of giving back control to these artisans, creating long term ethical partnerships.
UX
I was taken on at the end of August 2022. During the first stage of my internship, I was creating online assets and before moving onto social media and newsletter templates. From here I moved to the website, exploring ways to streamline the customer experience while bringing the brands story to the forefront as well.
I wanted to offer the opportunity to explore each of the tribes individually. Learning their unique styles and history. Instead of just having the name of the tribe and a map, I wanted to bring in a more illustrative introduction. What makes Moroccan rugs separate from other countries is this "hand made" quality. By which not every piece is 'perfect' or symmetrical. Each one has its own character.
